How much does it cost $ to take out car insurance in the US?

car insurance

With the current situation, not paying car insurance is practically asking you to have a worry in your head every time you go out on the streets. On the other hand, the cost of insurance is also absurd!

In Brazil, the value of insurance can reach or even exceed the average of 10% of the market value of the car per year. That is, if the person keeps that car in the garage for at least 10 years and pays the insurance every year, they may be able to purchase another vehicle with only the insurance value!

There are many factors that directly influence the final value of the insurance. Among them, the profile of the owner and/or main driver of the vehicle (such as age, sex and time of driving), the mileage traveled per month or year, if people under 25 years old will drive the car, the region of the country, if the vehicle will be accommodated in a closed garage with manual or electronic gate, among many others.

In addition, the car model is also directly linked to the cost. If that particular vehicle has a high incidence of theft and theft, the final insurance value may also be higher. This explains why insurance for cars like Volkswagen Gol and Golf has an absurd value.

A sports car also has the highest insurance cost. Not because he can expose himself to risk more often, but because he has more accessories, such as bigger and more flashy wheels, aesthetic props, fog lights and others that can draw more attention from thieves.

And these differences do not exist only in Brazil. In the United States, one of the most developed countries in the world, insurance also considers such criteria to arrive at a value for the owner.

On the other hand, the final price is much lower, as with many other products and services offered there.

How much does it cost to take out car insurance in the USA?

Even car insurance is much cheaper in the United States than in Brazil. At least that's what a survey carried out by the website Insure.com shows, which showed the average cost of auto insurance for all American states.

Currently, the average cost of insurance in the United States as a whole is $1,428, as shown in the Most and Least Expensive States for Car Insurance survey in the 2021 edition.

The information collected comes from 2,400 insured cars in several US states. Within each state, the price paid for car insurance from at least 10 different addresses was analyzed to form a fair average.

In the United States, insurers also consider the driver's sex and age, location, owner's financial situation, length of driver's license, vehicle model, among others. All these questions can be “controlled” by the car owner.

On the other hand, there are some other specific factors that are beyond the customer's control. US insurers also consider insurance laws, theft and robbery record rates, and even the number of uninsured car drivers in that state.

Average car insurance price in the US by state

The most expensive US state for auto insurance is Louisiana, which took the top spot in Michigan after seven years. A car insurance policy there costs an average of $2,839, which is 99% higher than the national average of $1,428.

In this state, many uninsured drivers and still many underrated drivers who “like” to sue each other. According to one study, about 11.7% of Louisiana drivers do not have car insurance and another 40% use insurance with minimal coverage.

Second place goes to Michigan, the former owner of the position in previous studies. There, the average cost of insurance is US$ 2,112, which is also very high when compared to the national average.

This happens through the insurance system applied in Michigan. In that state, there is a single car insurance system, which requires all drivers to have Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage.

This system helps cover the medical expenses the insured, family members and injured passengers may incur in an accident. PIP is also available in other states. However, most other US states use a system with reasonable limits on coverage amounts.

In Michigan, on the other hand, there are unlimited, lifetime medical benefits for car accident victims, raising the cost of insurance considerably.

Another state is Florida, which ranked third due to a 20.4% rate of drivers with uninsured cars. In addition, it has a higher percentage of at-risk drivers, such as students (due to the different universities cities there), older drivers and drivers unfamiliar with local roads (with large numbers of tourists).
